Cy & Jimmye Henson Memorial Scholarship
Cy & Jimmye both received their Master of Science from Oklahoma State University (formally OK A&M).
Cy played football and baseball for OSU. During his college years, he won 1st place at the Penn State Relays in the 100-yard dash & 2nd place at the University of Texas Relays. His junior year, he signed with the Detroit Tigers to play baseball, however, he never got to play. Cy joined the US military and was a fighter pilot in the US Army Air Force during WW II. While living here in Corsicana, he was active in the Tiger Booster Club and coached summer league baseball teams.
Jimmye was a public school educator & administrator for a total of 42 years, with 26 of those years here with the CISD, mostly at CHS. She was a member & held offices in the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Corsicana Educators Association & the Kinsloe House.
Upon their death, their two sons, CHS graduates, Dr. Wm T. Henson, class of ’65, & James R. Henson, class of ‘67, established a memorial scholarship emulating the best of their parents’ lives. This act of generosity honors their parents, & the contributions they made to this community, their dedication to education, & this school district.
Today’s presentation is a formal recognition of another whose excellence has been reflected both in this community & throughout his CISD career. This student has demonstrated leadership & proficiency both academically & in extra-curricular arenas, as well as, abroad. He has chosen to continue his academic excellence pursuing a career in music at Navarro College, transferring to North Texas State University. Cy & Jimmye’s family proudly presents The 2015 Cy & Jimmye Henson Memorial Scholarship to Zane Wilchar.
