Corsicana ISD Board Approves 100% Health Insurance Premium Coverage
The Corsicana ISD Board of Trustees voted, in a special meeting on Wednesday, to approve health insurance premium coverage at 100 percent for full-time employees and bus drivers.
Every employee at Corsicana ISD has access to health insurance through the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of Texas. This September 2016, employees will be able to access tier one insurance with 100 percent premium coverage by the District.
“This is one way we can demonstrate our commitment to the health and well-being of our employees,” said Rev. Ed Monk, chairman of the CISD Board. “Health insurance is a necessary and costly expense to our staff. While we have always paid a portion of the premium expense, we are now offering to cover it completely.
“Despite challenges in state funding, the District is able to provide this benefit due to the fiscal responsibility shown by the Board and Administration for the past several years,” stated Rev. Monk.
Employee benefits can be a huge factor in determining where to work. “This decision will not only benefit our current staff,” said Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Billy Harlan. “It could give CISD a competitive edge when hiring new staff to the District.”
Currently, CISD contributes 73 percent of the employee health insurance premium. The Board voted unanimously to cover the tier one premium expense for full-time staff and bus drivers.
“Personnel are our most valuable resource,” said Dr. Diane Frost, superintendent. “It makes me proud to offer this for our team at CISD.”
