Kopp Named Principal at Fannin Elementary
The Board of Trustees approved Ms. Karen Miller-Kopp as the new Principal at Fannin Elementary. The hire was made following the current Principal Diane Acock’s announcement to retire after 26 years at Corsicana ISD. Kopp is currently the Principal at ShadowGlen Elementary School at Manor ISD, where she has been since 2015.
“Ms. Kopp brings experienced leadership and strong instructional insight to Corsicana ISD and Fannin Elementary. Her genuine love of educating the minds and hearts of students is contagious. We are fortunate to have her at CISD,” said Dr. Diane Frost, superintendent of CISD.
Kopp has served many years in school leadership. Prior to her current role, she was the Executive Director for School improvement and Professional Growth for Plainview ISD for two years. While in Plainview she worked directly with principals to create Professional Learning Communities; created and implemented a focus on literacy; and developed professional learning programs for staff.
Prior to Plainview ISD, Kopp spent five years at Lake Travis ISD where she was the Associate Principal for Curriculum and Instruction at Lake Travis High School, and later she was named Principal of Lake Travis Elementary in Austin, Texas. Her experience also includes Assistant Principal/Dean of Instruction at Crockett High School in Austin. Kopp began her journey in education as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to join the Fannin team,” said Kopp. “I am looking forward to meeting the students and being a part of an education community that will have a lasting impact on the lives of our students.”
Kopp is currently working on her doctoral degree in School Improvement and Social Justice at Texas State University. Her daughter is an Ag teacher in Plainview also working toward her Master’s degree in school leadership. Kopp, and her puppy, are looking forward to making Corsicana home.
Diane Acock is retiring after 36 years in education. She spent the last 26 years in Corsicana ISD, and the last six as Principal of Fannin Elementary. “I know I have some big shoes to fill. Mrs. Acock has given so much of herself to make Fannin a great school,” said Kopp. “I look forward to this amazing opportunity.”
