Update Sept. 1:  Corsicana High School proposed a Hybrid Schedule for CHS students who choose In-Person learning. For student and staff safety, the Hybrid schedule lessens the number of students on-campus each day by providing students access to face-to-face instuction alternating days with online instruction. The Hybrid schedule will be based on the student's last name:

    • ‘A’ Day: Students that committed to face-to-face with last names A-K will attend instruction in the building. Students L-Z will be remote through lessons on Canvas.
    • ‘B’ Day: Students that committed to face-to-face with last names L-Z will attend instruction in the building. Student's A-K will be remote through lessons on Canvas.
    • ‘C’ Day: All students are remote and expected to do work on Canvas. Students may schedule time to come in for tutorials, test proctoring, remediation, practice skills learned in CTE classes. Teachers will work from their classrooms. Deep cleaning of high traffic areas will be conducted.
    • Teachers' daily schedule does not change.
    • Students on-campus attend all 8 periods.
    • Second week is as follows: 9/14 ‘A’ day; 9/15 ‘B’ day; 9/16 ‘C’ day; 9/17 ‘A’ day; 9/18 ‘B’ day

The Hybrid Schedule is for all in-person learners at CHS.

CHS Focuses on Student Safety with a Three Week Phase-in Hybrid Schedule

Due to the significant number of CHS students who selected in-person learning, the Corsicana High School administration presented a phase-in learning model to the Board of Trustees at their meeting on Monday night. The hybrid model is a phase-in strategy that will be evaluated after the first three weeks of school.

Corsicana ISD is opening Sept. 8 and students and parents have been selecting student learning options that the District provided for families to choose in July. The three instructional options for students are 1) In Person 2) At Home following a daily class schedule, or 3) Virtual Self-Paced allowing students to work on their own schedule.

Because of large in-person student enrollment numbers and the need for social distancing throughout the campus, Corsicana High School administration proposed the hybrid schedule focused on student safety to the CISD Board of Trustees.

CHS Principal Sean Kays discussed the hybrid model that will divide in-person student enrollment in half to create Group A and Group B. The groups are determined by each student’s last name – Group A for will include students’ last names beginning with A through K, and Group B for students’ last names beginning with L through Z.

Group A students will attend school on-campus on Mondays and Thursdays while Group B students will work remotely online. Group B students will attend school on Tuesdays and Fridays while Group A students work remotely online. On Wednesdays, all students will continue working online and the campus will be open for student testing, labs, and additional student support services. In addition, extra cleaning measures would be made throughout CHS on Wednesdays.

While students are learning online remotely they have direct access to their teachers and all lessons and assignments are on Canvas, the District’s online learning platform.

“I feel like this model is the right thing to do to keep our students and staff safe. Lessening the number of students on campus each day will allow for appropriate social distancing,” said Kays.
