Four CISD Ag students bound for FFA state contest
Four Corsicana ISD students will represent the district at the Texas FFA state contest in Public Relations this week after showcasing their chapter's achievements at the Area contest.
The team of Ava Levine, Paizlee Ragan, Joanna Martinez, and Laynie Walker recently earned the opportunity to compete Dec. 5-6 at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. The contest will feature top FFA chapters from across the state.
The group recently presented its chapter's accomplishments to the Corsicana ISD school board and later refined its presentation during a Leadership Development Showcase in November at Corsicana Middle School.
"Public Relations is all about telling our target audience what FFA is and the amazing opportunities it offers to our members," Walker said. "This year, our target audience is our school board, and we get to share with them why we should have FFA in our school and what it brings."
The Public Relations event challenges students to highlight their chapter's impact through professional communication and presentation skills.
For Martinez, who aspires to become a lawyer, the competition offers valuable preparation for her future career.
"Knowing that there is truly a place for anyone in FFA and feeling equal to everyone else deeply inspired me to compete in the Public Relations contest," she said. "With my dream of becoming a lawyer in the future, I hope to obtain the confidence, hard work ethic, and public speaking skills I have gained from this amazing experience."
The team is also working to dispel common misconceptions about their organization.
"The biggest misconception about agriculture or FFA is definitely the mindset that FFA and agriculture are all about showing livestock animals, but that is not the case," Ragan said. "FFA truly has a place for everyone; we have contests from speaking to talent and everything in between."
Levine emphasized how the experience has helped her grow personally.
"Before, I was always nervous to speak in front of people, but now I feel much more comfortable, especially talking about agriculture," she said. "My advice to younger students is to make sure to practice regularly and don't be afraid to ask for help."
Corsicana ISD officials praised the students for their dedication and leadership.
"This contest is one of my favorites because we get to really show off how much our students do throughout the year," said Miranda Johnson, Agriscience Teacher and FFA Advisor. "I think these girls have done an exceptional job of representing our chapter."
The Texas FFA Leadership Development Events aim to prepare students for future careers by emphasizing teamwork, public speaking, and advocacy.

Cuatro estudiantes de Corsicana ISD representarán al distrito en el concurso estatal de Relaciones Públicas de la FFA de Texas esta semana, tras mostrar los logros de su capítulo en el concurso de área.
El equipo formado por Ava Levine, Paizlee Ragan, Joanna Martinez y Laynie Walker tuvo recientemente la oportunidad de competir del 5 al 6 de diciembre en la Universidad Estatal Sam Houston en Huntsville. El concurso contará con los mejores capítulos de la FFA de todo el estado.
El grupo presentó recientemente los logros de su capítulo ante la junta escolar de Corsicana ISD y posteriormente perfeccionó su presentación durante una Muestra de Desarrollo de Liderazgo en noviembre en la Escuela Secundaria Corsicana.
"Relaciones Públicas consiste en contar a nuestro público objetivo qué es FFA y las increíbles oportunidades que ofrece a nuestros miembros", dijo Walker. "Este año, nuestro público objetivo es nuestro consejo escolar, y podemos compartir con ellos por qué deberíamos tener FFA en nuestra escuela y qué aporta."
El evento de Relaciones Públicas desafía a los estudiantes a destacar el impacto de su capítulo mediante habilidades profesionales de comunicación y presentación.
Para Martinez, que aspira a convertirse en abogada, la competición ofrece una preparación valiosa para su futura carrera.
"Saber que realmente hay un lugar para cualquiera en FFA y sentirme igual a los demás me inspiró profundamente a competir en el concurso de Relaciones Públicas", dijo. "Con mi sueño de convertirme en abogado en el futuro, espero obtener la confianza, la ética de trabajo duro y las habilidades de oratoria que he adquirido en esta increíble experiencia."
El equipo también está trabajando para disipar los malentendidos comunes sobre su organización.
"El mayor malentendido sobre la agricultura o FFA es sin duda la mentalidad de que FFA y la agricultura se centran en mostrar animales de ganado, pero no es así", dijo Ragan. "FFA realmente tiene un lugar para todos; Tenemos concursos, desde charlas hasta talento y todo lo que hay entre medias."
Levine enfatizó cómo esta experiencia le ha ayudado a crecer personalmente.
"Antes, siempre me daba miedo hablar delante de la gente, pero ahora me siento mucho más cómoda, especialmente hablando de agricultura", dijo. "Mi consejo para los estudiantes más jóvenes es que se aseguren de practicar regularmente y no tengan miedo de pedir ayuda."
Funcionarios de Corsicana ISD elogiaron a los estudiantes por su dedicación y liderazgo.
"Este concurso es uno de mis favoritos porque realmente podemos mostrar cuánto hacen nuestros estudiantes a lo largo del año", dijo Miranda Johnson, profesora de Agriciencia y asesora de la FFA. "Creo que estas chicas han hecho un trabajo excepcional representando a nuestro capítulo."
Los Eventos de Desarrollo de Liderazgo de la FFA de Texas tienen como objetivo preparar a los estudiantes para futuras carreras, enfatizando el trabajo en equipo, la oratoria y la defensa.
