CHS Student Council earns statewide recognition

The Texas Association of Student Councils recently recognized Corsicana High School as a Sweepstakes Council for outstanding achievement in leadership, service, and activities that serve to improve the school and community.
Sweepstakes councils must be recognized as an Outstanding Student Council and receive outstanding recognition in the categories of Drugs, Alcohol, Safety and Health; Pride and Patriotism; and Energy and Environment, as well as submitting a Community Service Report.
Student Council President Cerae Curry, who led the group throughout the year and attended CISD Board meetings to communicate the students’ concerns to the Administration, said Superintendent Stephanie Howell listened to her and took her concerns seriously.
“I want to thank Mrs. Howell for being the voice needed for the students and community,” Curry said. “I am grateful for her taking things to heart and having long overdue conversations.”
TASC has over 1,200 member schools. Of those, Corsicana High School is one of only 238 student councils statewide to receive this highly esteemed honor.
“It makes me proud that all of my officers finally get the recognition they deserve because it takes the whole team to make this happen,” said Briana White, CHS Student Council Advisor.

La Asociación de Consejos Estudiantiles de Texas reconoció recientemente a la Escuela Preparatoria Corsicana como Consejo de Sweepstakes por sus logros sobresalientes en liderazgo, servicio y actividades que contribuyen al mejoramiento de la escuela y la comunidad.
Los consejos de sweepstakes deben ser reconocidos como Consejos Estudiantiles Destacados y recibir un reconocimiento sobresaliente en las categorías de Drogas, Alcohol, Seguridad y Salud; Orgullo y Patriotismo; y Energía y Medio Ambiente, además de presentar un Informe de Servicio Comunitario.
La presidenta del Consejo Estudiantil, Cerae Curry, quien dirigió el grupo durante todo el año y asistió a las reuniones de la Junta de CISD para comunicar las inquietudes de los estudiantes a la Administración, afirmó que la superintendente Stephanie Howell la escuchó y tomó en serio sus preocupaciones.
“Quiero agradecer a la Sra. Howell por ser la voz que los estudiantes y la comunidad necesitan”, declaró Curry. “Le agradezco que se haya tomado en serio las cosas y haya tenido conversaciones tan esperadas”.
TASC cuenta con más de 1200 escuelas miembro. De ellos, la Escuela Preparatoria Corsicana es uno de sólo 238 consejos estudiantiles del estado que han recibido este prestigioso honor.
“Me enorgullece que todos mis directivos finalmente reciban el reconocimiento que merecen, porque se necesita el trabajo de todo el equipo para lograrlo”, dijo Briana White, asesora del Consejo Estudiantil de la Escuela Preparatoria Corsicana.
