Corsicana's Smith to be new CISD Health Coordinator

Collins Intermediate Nurse Ericka Smith is set to take the helm as longtime Corsicana ISD Health Coordinator Carla Whitt prepares for retirement, bringing a deep-rooted passion for both nursing and the community.
A 2001 Corsicana High School graduate, Smith's love for the district runs deep.
"I bleed blue and gold, and I'm very excited to serve our district," she said.
After earning her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Tyler, Smith spent eight years in the Pediatric ICU at Children's Health in Dallas before transitioning to school nursing at Collins Intermediate.
Smith is eager to build upon the foundation Whitt established while introducing new initiatives to promote student and staff wellness.
"We as a district have a vision of promoting healthy living and habits, and I'm excited to implement new ideas," she said. "Stay tuned for exciting things to come as we not only Dare to be Different but Dare to be Healthy."
Smith expressed her gratitude for working alongside her predecessor and the strong team of registered nurses across CISD.
"We are lucky to have the best nurses at each campus who go above and beyond to provide excellent care," she said. "I'm proud and honored to work alongside them and will be available for any assistance needed throughout the district."
To ensure CISD stays aligned with the latest healthcare practices, Smith plans to remain updated with guidance from the Texas Department of Health Services and local health authorities.
As she enters her new role, Smith is committed to building trust with students, staff, and parents.
"It has been a pleasure working with Nurse Whitt, and she will be missed greatly," she said. "We look forward to continuing to uphold the standards she set as we strive to grow our program to serve our students and staff in the future."

La enfermera de la Escuela Intermedia Collins, Ericka Smith asumirá el cargo de Coordinadora de Salud del Distrito Escolar Independiente de Corsicana, ya que Carla Whitt se prepara para jubilarse, aportando una profunda pasión por la enfermería y la comunidad.
Graduada de la Preparatoria Corsicana en 2001, Smith siente un profundo aprecio por el distrito.
"Soy de sangre azul y dorada, y estoy muy emocionada de servir a nuestro distrito", declaró.
Tras obtener su licenciatura en enfermería en la Universidad de Texas en Tyler, Smith trabajó ocho años en la UCI pediátrica de Children's Health en Dallas antes de incorporarse a la enfermería escolar en la Escuela Intermedia Collins.
Smith está ansiosa por seguir construyendo sobre la base de Whitt, introduciendo nuevas iniciativas para promover el bienestar de los estudiantes y el personal.
"Como distrito, tenemos la visión de promover una vida y hábitos saludables, y me entusiasma implementar nuevas ideas", afirmó. "Estén atentos a las novedades que nos esperan, ya que no solo nos atrevemos a ser diferentes, sino que también nos atrevemos a ser saludables".
Smith expresó su gratitud por trabajar junto a su predecesora y el sólido equipo de enfermeras tituladas de CISD.
"Tenemos la suerte de contar con las mejores enfermeras en cada campus, quienes se esfuerzan al máximo para brindar una atención excelente", dijo. "Me siento orgullosa y honrada de trabajar con ellas y estaré disponible para cualquier asistencia que necesiten en todo el distrito".
Para garantizar que CISD se mantenga al día con las últimas prácticas de atención médica, Smith planea mantenerse al día con las directrices del Departamento de Servicios de Salud de Texas y las autoridades sanitarias locales.
Al asumir su nuevo cargo, Smith se compromete a generar confianza con los estudiantes, el personal y los padres.
"Ha sido un placer trabajar con la enfermera Whitt y la extrañaremos mucho", dijo. "Esperamos seguir manteniendo los estándares que ella estableció mientras nos esforzamos por expandir nuestro programa para servir a nuestros estudiantes y personal en el futuro".
