Fannin Positivity Picnics promote family bonding

Parents and students at Fannin Elementary School gathered Tuesday in the school’s courtyard for the first-ever Positivity Picnic, an event designed to encourage family bonding and reinforce character education. For those unable to attend, two more opportunities remain on Wednesday and Thursday.
The picnic invited parents to share lunch with their children in an outdoor setting filled with lawn games and activities, all while emphasizing the power of positive words. Participants were encouraged to leave negativity behind and focus on quality time together.
“So often, parents and kids get caught up in their daily routines,” said Shea Edmonds, Fannin Elementary’s Guidance Counselor. “This event allows them to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy time together without stress.”
Families had the option to bring their lunches or purchase meals from the school cafeteria. While the event was open, interest was strong, with many parents RSVPing in advance.
Principal Holly Scoggins emphasized the importance of building strong connections with families.
“Our Positivity Picnics provide a wonderful opportunity for families and students to reconnect, share laughter, and embrace simple fun,” she said.
The picnics are part of Fannin Elementary’s broader commitment to character education, which teaches students essential values such as kindness, respect, and emotional well-being.
“In today’s world, technology often takes over, and we lose sight of simple things like sharing a picnic, sitting on a blanket, and giving each other undivided attention,” Edmonds said. “We can’t take those moments for granted.”
Edmonds also highlighted the role of District leadership in making the event possible.
“Our Superintendent, Stephanie Howell, and our Executive Director of Special Programs, Dr. Margie Boulware, have been incredibly supportive of character education and parent involvement,” she said. “Their dedication to a positive school culture has made events like this possible. We hope to make it an annual tradition.”

Padres y estudiantes de la Escuela Primaria Fannin se reunieron el martes en el patio de la escuela para el primer Picnic Positivo, un evento diseñado para fomentar la unión familiar y reforzar la formación del carácter. Para quienes no pudieron asistir, hay dos oportunidades más disponibles el miércoles y el jueves.
El picnic invitó a los padres a compartir un almuerzo con sus hijos en un espacio al aire libre con juegos y actividades, enfatizando el poder de las palabras positivas. Se animó a los participantes a dejar atrás la negatividad y centrarse en pasar tiempo de calidad juntos.
“Con frecuencia, padres e hijos se ven atrapados en sus rutinas diarias”, dijo Shea Edmonds, consejera de orientación de la Escuela Primaria Fannin. “Este evento les permite relajarse, reconectar y disfrutar del tiempo juntos sin estrés”.
Las familias tuvieron la opción de traer sus almuerzos o comprar comida en la cafetería de la escuela. Si bien el evento fue abierto, el interés fue fuerte, y muchos padres confirmaron su asistencia con anticipación.
La directora Holly Scoggins enfatizó la importancia de construir vínculos sólidos con las familias.
“Nuestros Picnics Positivos brindan una oportunidad maravillosa para que familias y estudiantes se reencuentren, compartan risas y disfruten de la diversión sencilla”, dijo.
Los picnics forman parte del compromiso más amplio de la Escuela Primaria Fannin con la educación del carácter, que enseña a los estudiantes valores esenciales como la amabilidad, el respeto y el bienestar emocional.
“En el mundo actual, la tecnología a menudo nos domina y perdemos de vista cosas simples como compartir un picnic, sentarnos en una manta y brindarnos atención plena”, dijo Edmonds. “No podemos dar por sentado esos momentos”.
Edmonds también destacó el papel del liderazgo del Distrito para hacer posible el evento.
“Nuestra superintendente, Stephanie Howell, y nuestra directora ejecutiva de Programas Especiales, la Dra. Margie Boulware, han apoyado enormemente la educación del carácter y la participación de los padres”, dijo. “Su dedicación a una cultura escolar positiva ha hecho posibles eventos como este. Esperamos convertirlo en una tradición anual”.
