The Penguin Project
A Message from the Director of Special Programs
Corsicana ISD is embarking on a new adventure called “The Penguin Project.” This will be the first Penguin Project in Texas and will involve a number of students in 4th grade and up (of all abilities) volunteers, educators, parents professionals and other community supporters. The CISD Penguin Project will produce the Broadway musical, “Annie, Jr.” on the CHS stage in April 2020.
The actors will be students with special needs accompanied by student mentors who will assist them in their performance. This is so much more than a show. It is about bringing people together to learn, it is about helping others, it is about a community, it is about theater, and it is about the power of the human spirit. This moving experience is an opportunity for students to be defined by their abilities rather than their disabilities.
We are seeking actors and mentors of all abilities (4th grade and up). If you are interested in your child participating as a cast member, please visit www.cisd.org to sign up for updates and receive information about the project.
If you would like more information, please come to the informational meetings at Corsicana High School to learn more. This is an all-inclusive project and every student is welcome to participate.
