Students that participate in theatre, whether on stage or behind the scenes, are often creative in unique ways. But, this … this is one cool way to go out right before summer.
High School Tech Theatre students created fairy doors and hung them around trees at Community Park to be discovered by children and those who are young at heart, Theatre Tech Director Debbie Taylor said. Twenty fairy doors were placed in strategic areas for parkgoers to admire.
“I was traveling in Ireland and went for a hike in a forest when I came upon hundreds of small doors perched in the trees,” Taylor said. “My Irish friend told me they were fairy doors, tiny portals between our world and the magical world where fairies come from. I was completely enchanted.”
Students in Theatre Tech class are responsible for building the sets for all the Tiger Theatre shows, as well as Penguin Project. At the end of the year, they have scraps of wood and dribbles of paint left over. Students wanted to create something rather than just throw away materials this year, Taylor said.
“The fairy doors allowed students to combine their design, construction, and artistic skills,” Taylor said. “A bonus is that this project connects with the community.”
Taylor partnered with the Corsicana Parks and Recreation Department, who graciously allowed the students to place the fairy doors.

Los estudiantes de High School Tech Theatre crearon puertas de hadas y las colgaron alrededor de los árboles en Community Park para que los niños y los que son jóvenes de corazón las descubran, dijo la directora de Theatre Tech, Debbie Taylor. Se colocaron veinte puertas de hadas en áreas estratégicas para que los asistentes al parque las admiren.
“Estaba viajando por Irlanda y fui a caminar por un bosque cuando me encontré con cientos de pequeñas puertas encaramadas en los árboles”, dijo Taylor. “Mi amigo irlandés me dijo que eran puertas de hadas, pequeños portales entre nuestro mundo y el mundo mágico de donde provienen las hadas. Estaba completamente encantado”.
Los estudiantes de la clase de Tecnología Teatral son responsables de construir los decorados para todos los espectáculos de Teatro Tigre, así como para el Proyecto Pingüino. Al final del año, les sobran restos de madera y goterones de pintura. Los estudiantes querían crear algo en lugar de tirar materiales este año, dijo Taylor.
“Las puertas de hadas permitieron a los estudiantes combinar sus habilidades de diseño, construcción y artísticas”, dijo Taylor. “Una ventaja es que este proyecto se conecta con la comunidad”.
Taylor se asoció con el Departamento de Parques y Recreación de Corsicana, quienes gentilmente permitieron que los estudiantes colocaran las puertas de hadas.
