Fourth grade students at Carroll Elementary have a leg up on advanced high school science and math classes already. Says who? Jeff Ray, Channel 11 meteorologist, that’s who.
Ray was at Carroll Monday as part of the Dallas CBS affiliate’s “Weather on Wheels” program. It marked the first on-campus visit at any North Texas school by a Ch. 11 meteorologist since COVID began, Ray told about 50 eager students. Carroll teacher Linda Vail entered the school for a shot at the program, and Carroll was selected.
A 12-year veteran of the Dallas airwaves, Ray regaled the students with basic experiments, explaining the atmosphere, air pressure and density, and how the air is heated, among other things. “The sun warms up the ground, and the ground warms up the air,” he told the students.
Making it fun and asking for a lot of participation, he also threw in some geography and lessons on global population. He’d often close out a discussion with liners like, “When they asked you that in Calculus in 11th grade, you can tell them you learned all about that in fourth grade.”

Los estudiantes de cuarto grado de la primaria Carroll ya tienen una ventaja en las clases avanzadas de ciencias y matemáticas de la preparatoria. ¿Dice quién? Jeff Ray, meteorólogo del Canal 11, ese es quien.
Ray estuvo en Carroll el lunes como parte del programa "Weather on Wheels" de la afiliada del canal CBS en Dallas. Marcó la primera visita al campus en cualquier escuela del norte de Texas por parte de un Ch. 11 meteorólogo desde que comenzó COVID, Ray le dijo a unos 50 estudiantes ansiosos. La maestra de Carroll, Linda Vail, ingresó a la escuela para participar en el programa y Carroll fue seleccionada.
Ray, un veterano de 12 años de las ondas de radio de Dallas, entretuvo a los estudiantes con experimentos básicos, explicando la atmósfera, la presión y la densidad del aire, y cómo se calienta el aire, entre otras cosas. “El sol calienta la tierra y la tierra calienta el aire”, les dijo a los estudiantes.
Haciéndolo divertido y pidiendo mucha participación, también agregó algo de geografía y lecciones sobre la población mundial. A menudo cerraba una discusión con frases como: "Cuando te preguntaron eso en Cálculo en el grado 11, puedes decirles que aprendiste todo sobre eso en el cuarto grado".
