Thirty-eight! That’s how many straight falls the Tigers tennis team has made the postseason. But this year came with a caveat: a coveted district title. The playoffs loom.
The 19th-ranked Tigers (18-2) wrapped up the regular season with a 19-0 shellacking of Red Oak, wrapping up the District 14-5A campaign with a sterling 5-0 record. They beat Melissa, 12-1, Tuesday, in the Region II bi-district round.
They will face Texarkana Texas High Friday in the area round.
The Tigers, ranked No. 8 in Region II, went two rounds deep in team playoffs last year.
Tigers coach Chad White said Melissa is an up-and-coming program.
“On paper, we are stronger,” White said, “but we still have to go play and execute.”
The Tigers team includes:
Boys: Will Higgs, Isaac Owen, Ethon Scoggins, Prez Rios, Gabe Edgar, Davin Munoz, Zach Thomson, Isak Rodriguez, Giancarlo Renaud, Jaxsen Mahoney and Elex Crouch.
Girls: Emma Carpenter, Kate Higgs, Avery Williams, Ashley Butron, Hillary Zhang, Natasha Vargas, Abbie Walthall, Joselyn Monroy, Hannah White, Maddie Branch and Aryn Richter.

¡Treinta y ocho! Esa es la cantidad de caídas seguidas que ha hecho el equipo de tenis de los Tigres en la postemporada. Pero este año llegó con una advertencia: un codiciado título de distrito. Los playoffs se avecinan.
