At only 19, Morgan Foley knows exactly where she wants to be. In a sense, she is already there.
The Dawson High graduate is in her second year as a paraprofessional with Corsicana ISD, honing a craft she hopes to call a career working with Navarro Elementary’s special needs students.
“I did peer tutoring when I was a senior in high school, and I finally decided what to I want do with my life,” Ms. Foley said. “These kids just need an advocate. There is never really a day I dread. It’s heartwarming to see the kids grow.”
With her associate’s already in hand, Ms. Foley seeks her degree from Texas A&M-Commerce while holding down another job, besides the one she has with CISD. She joined the Navarro team last spring, and she hopes to remain there once her education concludes.
“It’s all about teamwork here,” Ms. Foley said. “We lean on each other.”
Finding pieces to the education puzzle like Ms. Foley is not always easy, Navarro Principal Brittany Mathis said.
“She will be a phenomenal special education teacher,” Mathis said. “Ms. Foley is amazing. She has taken the role very seriously and is building relationships with those kids.
“We’re very thankful to have her here. Her heart is in it, and she does it for the right reasons.”
While every day is different and triumphs occur daily, Ms. Foley already has a strong favorite for memory of the year. She carefully and diligently worked with one student who was afraid of the playground jungle gym because “it is high and there are holes in the bottom of it.” He thought he was going to fall, she said. After some work, that student was a jungle gym master.
“We worked with him for about two weeks straight, going up with him and doing the routine with him,” Ms. Foley said. “Finally, he did it by himself."

Con solo 19 años, Morgan Foley sabe exactamente dónde quiere estar. En cierto sentido, ella ya está allí.
La graduada de Dawson High está en su segundo año como paraprofesional con Corsicana ISD, perfeccionando un oficio que espera llamar una carrera trabajando con los estudiantes con necesidades especiales de Navarro Elementary.
“Hice tutoría entre compañeros cuando estaba en el último año de la preparatoria y finalmente decidí qué quiero hacer con mi vida”, dijo la Sra. Foley. “Estos niños solo necesitan un defensor. Nunca hay realmente un día que temo. Es conmovedor ver crecer a los niños”.
Con su título de asociado ya en la mano, la Sra. Foley busca su título de Texas A&M-Commerce mientras tiene otro trabajo, además del que tiene con CISD. Se unió al equipo de Navarro la primavera pasada y espera permanecer allí una vez que concluya su educación.
“Aquí todo se trata de trabajo en equipo”, dijo Foley. “Nos apoyamos unos en otros”.
Encontrar piezas para el rompecabezas de la educación como la Sra. Foley no siempre es fácil, dijo la directora de Navarro, Brittany Mathis.
“Ella será una maestra de educación especial fenomenal”, dijo Mathis. Foley es increíble. Se ha tomado el papel muy en serio y está construyendo relaciones con esos niños.
“Estamos muy agradecidos de tenerla aquí. Su corazón está en ello y lo hace por las razones correctas”.
Si bien cada día es diferente y los triunfos ocurren todos los días, la Sra. Foley ya tiene un recuerdo favorito del año. Trabajó cuidadosa y diligentemente con un estudiante que tenía miedo del gimnasio de la jungla del patio de recreo porque “es alto y tiene agujeros en el fondo”. Él pensó que se iba a caer, dijo ella. Después de un poco de trabajo, ese estudiante era un maestro de gimnasia en la jungla.
“Trabajamos con él durante unas dos semanas seguidas, yendo con él y haciendo la rutina con él”, dijo la Sra. Foley. “Finalmente, lo hizo solo”.
