Guns, Weapons Still Not Allowed on District Premises or at District Events

Just a reminder that you are not allowed to bring firearms on District premises or to school-sponsored events, including athletic competitions. Despite a new law that went into effect Wednesday, September 1, 2021, which allows most Texans who legally own a firearm to carry it openly in public without a permit or training, it is still against Texas law to bring a firearm on District premises. Attorneys for Corsicana ISD confirm that the new constitutional carry law does not apply to District premises or school athletic facilities where weapons are still prohibited by state law.

Under Sec. 46.03(a)(1) of the Texas Penal Code, a person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly possesses or goes with a firearm, location-restricted knife, club, or prohibited weapon on the physical premises of a school or educational institution, any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by a school or educational institution is being conducted, or a passenger transportation vehicle of a school or educational institution, whether the school or educational institution is public or private.

Thank you for helping Corsicana ISD maintain a safe school environment for all students and staff.
