For the second time in eight days, Corsicana ISD and the community assembled for a magical groundbreaking.

For the second time in eight days, Corsicana ISD and the community assembled for a magical groundbreaking. This time, dirt flew twice.

The District officially broke ground Friday on construction of two projects nestled between FM 744, 45th Street (FM 2555), and Drane Road: the 800-student Early Childhood Center, and a modern Transportation facility. Some two-dozen “littles,” Pre-K students from the district, were on hand.

Last week, Corsicana ISD officially broke ground on a new agricultural facility at Corsicana High School, the first of the “big four” projects.” With Friday celebrating numbers two and three, the final major project of the bond is the CHS Career and Technical Education (CTE) wings and Commons expansion, along with other renovations. That groundbreaking is expected to take place in December.

“Last week we put shovels in the ground for our ag students. Today we keep that promise going,” said Stephanie Howell, Superintendent of Corsicana ISD. “These two projects may seem like an unusual pair, but they share a common purpose. They are where many of our students’ school days begin.”

The ECC will be an interactive wonderland of learning for pre-K and kindergarten students, allowing current K-4 campuses to alleviate congestion. It will feature themed classrooms and new family-style learning areas.

“Through this immersive learning environment, our students might become astronauts exploring outer space, marine biologists discovering the wonders of the ocean, or paleontologists uncovering the mysteries of the past,” said Dr. Tiffany Farmer, Executive Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction. “Through imagination, exploration, and discovery, we’re bringing learning to life in ways that many children have never experienced before.”

The Transportation has long needed a facility upgrade. It will include more space for maintenance and washing, fresh office and meeting space, and a central location between three large campuses and all of the district’s athletic facilities.

“While it might look like brick, steel, and concrete, this building represents something far bigger: efficiency, safety, and reliability for every single student we serve,” Assistant Superintendent of Maintenance and Operations Shade Boulware said. “... Beyond the garage, our new administrative offices and collaborative meeting rooms give our hard-working, often overlooked transportation team a dedicated home base to plan, coordinate, and train.”

The current transportation grounds will become parking areas for spring sports, also remedying an issue on nights when baseball, softball, and tennis all play at CHS.

The Transportation facility could be operational by next fall, while the opening of the ECC is scheduled for the fall of 2028.

“Today is another monumental day for our district and our entire community as we break ground on two great projects,” said Brad Farmer, President of the Corsicana ISD Board of Trustees. “... When a community invests in its schools and transportation, it invests in its future.”
