The foyer at Navarro Elementary School may be the envy of the district soon, when its new chandelier finds its home. It did not cost the school thousands of dollars, just a little creativity and effort. 

When additional instruction is needed or desired, two things must be in place: willing students and parents, and willing teachers. Navarro has all of those working together to further develop young artists. 

The afterschool program is called the Navarro Doodlers. Their newly created chandelier is made up of repurposed CDs. 

About 20 students from first through fourth grades stay after school once a week for about 45 minutes to get further instruction from Fine Arts teacher Sara Lewis and second grade teacher Danielle Sauceda.  

“We started it this year because we have so many artistic students and not enough time to help them grow their talents during regular school hours,” Lewis said. 

The Doodlers are also working on Christmas cards and other holiday artwork and have fence art lined up for the Spring.  

Some of the students participate in art contests outside of CISD and Lewis hopes to display that artwork around campus.

El vestíbulo de la Escuela Primaria Navarro puede ser pronto la envidia del distrito, cuando su nuevo candelabro encuentre su hogar. No le costó a la escuela miles de dólares, solo un poco de creatividad y esfuerzo. 

Cuando se necesita o se desea instrucción adicional, deben existir dos cosas: estudiantes , padres, y maestros dispuestos. Navarro tiene a todos trabajando juntos para desarrollar aún más a los jóvenes artistas. 

El programa extracurricular se llama Navarro Doodlers. Su candelabro recién creada se compone de CD reutilizados. 

Alrededor de 20 estudiantes de primero a cuarto grado se quedan después de la escuela una vez a la semana durante unos 45 minutos para recibir más instrucción de la maestra de Arte Sara Lewis y la maestra de segundo grado Danielle Sauceda. 

“Lo comenzamos este año porque tenemos tantos estudiantes artísticos y no tenemos suficiente tiempo para ayudarlos a desarrollar sus talentos durante el horario escolar regular”, dijo Lewis. 

Los Doodlers también están trabajando en tarjetas navideñas y otras obras de arte navideñas y tienen obras de arte de cercas preparadas para la primavera. 

Algunos de los estudiantes participan en concursos de arte fuera de CISD y Lewis espera exhibir esa obra de arte en el campus.
