Inexperience can lead to a lot of lessons learned. Some pleasant, some not so much. It could be one of those springs for the Corsicana High School girls golf team.
In her sixth season, Lori Haynie has four team members with no varsity experience: two sophomores, and two freshmen.
Junior varsity tournaments might suit them better in their first year.
“There are not very many JV tournaments in the spring, so we are stepping up and playing in varsity tournaments,” Haynie said. “This builds character and allows them to see some players that are better than they are.”
And that bodes well for Kyndall Gorden, Macki Holden, Tatum Petty, and Cameron Wetsel.
Their highs can be applauded for the steps forward they truly are. In the tournaments that do not go so well, they are building blocks nevertheless.
“I retired after 30 years in education but could not pass up the opportunity to share my passion for golf with another generation,” Haynie said. “Golf is something you can do for many years.”
The Lady Tigers finished third in their first tournament of the spring and will hit the links again Monday at home in the Tiger Classic at the Corsicana Country Club.
“We hope to do well,” Haynie said.

“No hay muchos torneos JV en la primavera, por lo que estamos intensificando y jugando en torneos varsity”, dijo Haynie. “Esto construye el carácter y les permite ver a algunos jugadores que son mejores que ellos”.
Y eso es un buen augurio para Kyndall Gorden, Macki Holden, Tatum Petty y Cameron Wetsel.
Sus progresos son dignos de aplauso. En los torneos que no van tan bien, son, sin embargo, piezas de construcción.
“Me jubilé después de 30 años de educación, pero no podía dejar pasar la oportunidad de compartir mi pasión por el golf con otra generación”, dijo Haynie. “El golf es algo que puedes hacer durante muchos años”.
Las Lady Tigers terminaron en tercer lugar en su primer torneo de la primavera y volverán a estar en el campo de golf el lunes en casa en el Tiger Classic en el Corsicana Country Club.
“Esperamos hacerlo bien”, dijo Haynie.
