With over two dozen returning athletes, including a state-medalist hurdler, Corsicana High School boys’ spring track team is poised to compete at the highest level.
“Last year was a success overall,” said Head Coach Wayne Braziel. “We had five different athletes qualify for the area meet and one relay and then we had three athletes qualify for the regional meet and one relay.”
Leading the pack was state qualifier Ja’Shaun Lloyd who placed second in 110-meter hurdles and sixth in 300-meter hurdles.
All the athletes that qualified for last years’ area, regionals and the state meet are back except for two, including senior LJ Williams, senior Dontay Thomas, junior twins Ja’Shaun and Ty’Shaun Lloyd, and junior Jeremiel Taylor.
“We also have multiple up-and-coming runners this year and a good group of young kids we’re excited about,” Braziel said. “The main challenge will be the tough district teams we have to face.”
The expectation for the season is to build off last year’s progress and have more athletes representing Corsicana at the state meet in May in Austin.
“Fans can expect to see our athletes competing at the highest level and doing what it takes to help the track team at the end of the day,” Braziel said.
The boys’ first meet is set for Friday, Feb. 16 in Crandall. Corsicana ISD will host the Bullard-Williams Relays Thursday, Feb. 22 at Community National Bank & Trust Stadium.

Con más de dos docenas de atletas que regresan, incluido un corredor de vallas medallista estatal, el equipo de atletismo masculino de primavera de la Preparatoria Corsicana está preparado para competir al más alto nivel.
"El año pasado fue un éxito absoluto", dijo el entrenador en jefe Wayne Brazil. “Tuvimos cinco atletas diferentes que se clasificaron para el encuentro de área y un relevo y luego tuvimos tres atletas que se clasificaron para el encuentro regional y un relevo”.
Liderando el grupo estaba el clasificado estatal Ja'Shaun Lloyd, quien quedó segundo en 110 metros con vallas y sexto en 300 metros con vallas.
Todos los atletas que se clasificaron para el área de los últimos años, regionales y la reunión del estado están de vuelta a excepción de dos, incluyendo el senior LJ Williams, el senior Dontay Thomas, los gemelos junior Ja'Shaun y Ty'Shaun Lloyd, y el junior Jeremiel Taylor.
"También tenemos varios corredores prometedores este año y un buen grupo de muchachos jóvenes que nos entusiasman", dijo Brazil. "El principal reto serán los equipos de distrito difíciles que tenemos que enfrentar".
La expectativa para la temporada es construir sobre el progreso del año pasado y tener más atletas que representan Corsicana en la reunión estatal en mayo en Austin.
“Los aficionados pueden esperar ver a nuestros atletas competir al más alto nivel y hacer lo que sea necesario para ayudar al equipo de atletismo al final del día”, dijo Braziel.
El primer encuentro de los chicos está programado para el viernes 16 de febrero en Crandall. Corsicana ISD será el anfitrión de los relevos Bullard-Williams el jueves 22 de febrero en el Estadio Community National Bank & Trust.
