Corsicana ISD teachers honored through state program
More than four dozen Corsicana ISD teachers were recognized during Tuesday’s meeting of the Board of Trustees for effectiveness in the classroom and impact on students through a Texas program called Teacher Incentive Allotment, which provides additional funding to teachers who earn local designations. The teachers can be rewarded on three levels: Master, Exemplary, and Recognized.
The TIA was created by the Texas Legislature with the goal of recruiting, retaining, and rewarding effective educators, especially on high needs and rural campuses.
“Tonight we recognize 50 Corsicana ISD teachers who have met and exceeded the criteria for recognition - which, for this group, are STAAR and/or MAP scores and classroom evaluations,” said Dr. Diane Frost, Superintendent of Corsicana ISD schools. “For this group, only teachers who teach math and/or English language arts and reading on a grade level that has STAAR and/or MAP scores were eligible. One third of the eligible CISD teachers received TIA designations.”
Next year the criteria are expanding eligibility to include all teachers of academic subjects, including special education, physical education, fine arts, and electives, she said.
Administrators Dr. Karen Kopp and Sean Kays were also recognized for their efforts behind the scenes creating the CISD plan based on TEA guidelines. Additionally, Frost thanked the District’s principals for the hours of time devoted to classroom walks, evaluations, and campus direction.
The additional state funding could range from almost $5,000 per teacher to almost $23,000.
