For students in Patricia Hernandez’s class at Carroll, Wednesday morning was the culmination of school year’s worth of editorial effort. Their book, “Mundo Animal,” was debuted in front of family and peers.
“I have always wanted to write a class book but I have never put in the effort like I did this school year,” said the first grade teacher. “When I gave the idea to the class, they all got excited about it. I told them the if we were going to start we were going to complete the task the best possible. We all agreed to the hard work we had ahead - and oh boy if it was hard - tons of editing and rewriting until we felt the book was ready.”
Each student penned a page about an animal of their choosing, and provided an accompanying illustration. The book contains creatures of all kinds, including jungle, sea, farm, and domestic, Hernandez said.
It was published in soft and hardcover by Student Treasures.
“(Wednesday), very proudly, I presented my new little authors in our school library,” she said. “Parents, staff, our own librarian, and some classes had the opportunity to meet, ask questions, talk to, and listen to my authors read their factual information about their favorite animal. It was a great experience for all. I am very proud of my little authors and very appreciative of the support I received from their parents.”

Para los estudiantes de la clase de Patricia Hernández en Carroll, el miércoles por la mañana fue la culminación del esfuerzo editorial del año escolar. Su libro, “Mundo Animal”, se estrenó frente a familiares y compañeros.
“Siempre quise escribir un libro de clase, pero nunca me esforcé tanto como lo hice este año escolar”, dijo la maestra de primer grado. “Cuando les propuse la idea a la clase, todos se entusiasmaron. Les dije que si íbamos a empezar, íbamos a completar la tarea lo mejor posible. Todos estuvimos de acuerdo en el arduo trabajo que teníamos por delante (y, vaya si fue difícil), toneladas de edición y reescritura hasta que sentimos que el libro estaba listo”.
Cada estudiante escribió una página sobre un animal de su elección y proporcionó una ilustración adjunta. El libro contiene criaturas de todo tipo, de la selva, del mar, de la granja y domésticas, dijo Hernández.
Fue publicado en tapa blanda y dura por Student Treasures.
“(El miércoles), con mucho orgullo, presenté a mis nuevos pequeños autores en la biblioteca de nuestra escuela”, dijo. “Los padres, el personal, nuestro propio bibliotecario y algunas clases tuvieron la oportunidad de reunirse, hacer preguntas, hablar y escuchar a mis autores leer información objetiva sobre su animal favorito. Fue una gran experiencia para todos. Estoy muy orgulloso de mis pequeños autores y agradezco mucho el apoyo que recibí de sus padres”.
